Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes

In a park full of high tech gadgets and thrill rides galore, it’s nice to see that simple things can still be a lot of fun. Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes are one of those simple pleasures. It’s a pretty straightforward concept…. put a bunch of people in a canoe and row. Actually, I’m pretty sure the guide does most of the rowing, but they make you feel like you’re contributing to the forward momentum of the boat. Your boat takes a tour around Tom Sawyer’s Island on the River of America, and it’s interesting to see Tom Sawyer’s Island from a different perspective. Your tour around the river will take 10 minutes, give or take, depending on how well everyone in your boat learns to row!

Our particular canoe was full of children, which was an interesting experience, to say the least. Word of warning… when sitting behind a child, be prepared to get wet! Or dodge flying paddles. But that’s half the fun. Children may not be all that great at rowing, but they’ll still have a blast trying! Teens and adults are obviously going to get the boat around the island faster, but is that really the point? Some people might not want to put effort into their theme park ride, but I think it’s a refreshing change. I need to do something to get my muscles moving after standing in line all day!
