The Magic of Disneyland

Still the Happiest Place on Earth!

Tom Sawyer Island

It’s amazing that a place like Tom Sawyer’s Island can exist in the middle of a bustling, crowded amusement park. For some reason, the island just seems rustic and remote, even though there are a lot of people milling around.

The only way to get to Tom Sawyer’s Island is by raft. Well, I guess you could swim, but I wouldn’t advise a dip in that yucky water. Anyway, the island is a wonderful place for kids to run around and blow off steam. There are caves to explore, bridges to cross, and a fort and windmill to discover. It’s a welcome change from the endless waiting in line that often happens elsewhere in the park.

Be careful at Tom Sawyer’s Island, though…it’s easy to get lost, both for children and adults. Adults, of course, can look at the maps scattered throughout the island. Keep a close eye on your kids, and set up a meeting place just in case you get separated. It’s easy to lose a child in the caves or the fort. Take it from someone who lost a child there once…it’s not a pleasant experience.

The Island closes at dusk, so plan to visit earlier in the day.
